How Clean Is Your Home?

As many of you have seen recently the CDC made recommendations against Lumber Liquidators laminate flooring made in the last few years because of Formaldehyde leading to increased cancer risk.(1) If you have had flooring from them it is worth a call to find out if you need to get a free test kit. This is the link for a request (https://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/testkit)
Indoor air quality is a big deal as this CDC warning states but did you know how many different products off gas chemical that we shouldn’t be breathing? This article from Medical News today has a nice review of different exposures we can have in our house. (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/306609.php)
Look at your health in the analogy of a bucket, once that bucket is full symptoms and illness show up in our lives. When we look at most products they do fall within tested safe limits and single exposures are unlikely to cause problems. So, lets look at the bucket analogy when you start filling a bucket up with a single trickle it takes a long time to fill, but for example when you have 35 trickles that bucket fills much quicker. When we are born we have over 200 measurable industrial pollutants in our blood.(3) The trickles start before we are born. Then we start using skin products and cleaning products that have know carcinogens in them or toxic metals. We have cosmetic products with unsafe levels of lead in them and they are put on daily. Then we start looking at cleaning supplies many products emit Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) these chemicals are absorbed by the body and will cause damage over time. They require detoxification and processing to eliminate.(5)
What is the point to this? We can either make conscious choices and vote with our wallets to reduce the chemical exposures in our homes or we can keep slowly adding to the trickle exposures that potentially lead to cancer, chronic degenerative disease and ultimately feeling crappy when we shouldn’t have to.

We recommend reducing exposures whenever possible, try http://www.ewg.org as a resource for finding products that are much less toxic. When possible by products with low or no VOC’s to avoid exposures and make sure that you are eating a healthy diet with a variety of color in your fruits and vegetables along with yearly detoxification in order to reduce the burden on your body. We can fight back against the chemical soup we have made and start helping your body feel better.

For detoxification questions give us a call, there are several routes that you can take and it can really be a life changing experience.

Recipe of the Week-Avocado Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

We made these last night, they turn out great but a few modifications I would suggest. They make a great dough which is like a fudge when frozen. The recipe suggests a 20 minute cook time which we thought was WAY too long. Try closer to 15 minutes. Enjoy!

1/2 cup ripe Avocado
1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup tapioca starch (2.5 ounces)
1/2 cup + 2 Tablespoons coconut palm sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon finely ground sea salt
1/4 cup melted organic virgin coconut oil (not hot, just needs to be in liquid form)
1/8 cup dairy free chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Combine avocado, egg and vanilla extract in the bowl of a food processor or in a high powered blender. Process until smooth.
Add tapioca starch, palm sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, sea salt and melted coconut oil. Process until completely incorporated and batter is smooth. You may need to use a spatula to scrape the bowl a couple of times.

Use a Tablespoon to scoop leveled rounds of the batter out onto the baking sheet.

Use your clean fingers or the tip of a spatula (coated in coconut oil) to gently flatten each cookie.

Once flattened, sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Bake on the center rack for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove and allow to cool on baking sheet for 3 to 5 minutes.
Finally, transfer to a

Once cooled, serve and Enjoy!
