What is cupping therapy?

Cupping therapy is a technique dating back to ancient times and has been used around the world to treat a variety of health disorders. Cupping utilizes cups placed on the skin to create a negative pressure through suction. The cups are typically silicone, plastic or glass. How does cupping therapy work?

Plastic cups are applied to the skin and a pump is used to create a suction in the cup, lifting the tissue. The suction effect on the tissue is used to facilitate the healing process. The cups stay on for a few minutes before they’re removed. The process is essentially painless.

What does cupping therapy do?

Cupping therapy reduces pain & inflammation, and increases circulation to promote healing. Cupping is also beneficial for nerve entrapments. The entrapped nerve is alleviated as the suction lifts the tissue.

Cupping therapy is a low-risk therapy because harmful side effects are very rare. The most common side effect with cupping therapy is bruising or discoloration in a circular pattern where the cups were placed. Bruising is common, but normal.
